Product Review : 4ever Skin Naturals Pearl Fairness Night Cream

Disclaimer: I bought this product with my own money and have no affiliation with the company whatsoever.

Hello pretty cookies,

This is my first ever product review and the most anticipated one. Yay!! *Jumping up and down on the bed*. The product is called Pearl Fairness Night Cream and it is by a company called 4ever Skin Naturals. It's a 100% Sri Lankan owned company, hence I suppose it's only available locally when it comes to retail. I will insert the link of the company site below but I do not know whether they ship products abroad or not.

*Skip this part if you are easily bored :)

Let me first give you a summary about my acne story (brace yourself cookies..) I will share my acne story in full scale proportion in another blog post of course (it's too damn long). I used to have very clear skin throughout my teen years. I never had breakouts and I very rarely got even a little bump.I inherited this awesome skin from my mum's side. But as soon as I hit 20, a couple of tiny, very tiny bumps started to appear right beneath the corner of my mouth! This baffled me of course and never being used to having acne, I popped them. The next day, couple of bumps became few. Fast forward a year - in 2011, my chin was covered in those annoying tiny bumps (I had around 30-40 bumps on just one side of my chin), my cheeks had considerable amount of the suckers and my forehead had become home to a few too.Talk about spreading! I tried many over-the-counter products with no success. The only thing which helped was the Neutrogena Deep Clean Foaming Cleanser. And yes, I tried many home remedies as well, honey, turmeric, sandalwood powder and what not. Finally I was left with no choice other than to visit a dermatologist. I visited two actually. I was prescribed Adapalene Gel (Differin Gel) by one and Erythromycin Gel by the other along with antibiotics. Adapalene Gel made the bumps vanish but made my skin peel so bad. My bumps were gone but my skin looked like tiger bread, literally.

That's when my cousin came around and introduced me to this cream. "Oh my god you need to try this! It got rid of my pimples!" she told. I scanned her face with doubt "seriously?". I honestly don't think she had that much pimples to begin with 'cause I've never seen her face full of zits. But I did notice that, her face was brighter and had no marks whatsoever. I was mildly horrified when I saw the cream (well, the packaging). It was a really small tub (30g of product) and it costs Rs.2000 (15 USD). Mind you, Rs. 2000 is not a small amount of money to college girl, especially to spend on a small tub of face cream. Then again I was borderline insane because of my acne, so I thought what the heck and gave it a go. Within a week the annoying tiny zit colony which drove me insane, vanished - poof! I was in complete awe. It took only a week. I was ecstatic to feel my teenage skin again after two years! Obviously, I started to use this cream every night religiously. I didn't dare to miss a single night. After a month or two, my face became about two shades lighter than it was before, creating a very noticeable contrast with my neck and the rest of my body. So I can safely say that the fairness claim of this cream is indeed true. I was mortified when my friends started noticing and asking whether I had bleached my face because of the obvious color difference with my neck. I honestly was pretty much content with the skin tone I was born with and didn't want to enhance it further. So, I stopped using the cream completely and guess what - my acne came back in full force after a week. Yes, my acne took only a week disappear and took only a week to come back - fiercely! Man,it was really bad and those bumps were itchy like hell too - which did not happen before. Anyhow, I waited around two weeks for the bumps to calm down. I used only Lacto Calamine lotion in those two or so weeks. They did calm down a bit in terms of itching but didn't go away. I desperately turned to this cream again. But, this time I started using it every two nights (I skipped the cream two nights and applied on the third night) which helped to stop/greatly reduce the fairness effect. Since then I have been using this cream and have not turned back.

When I started using this cream (in late 2012), it looked like a paste (I had to use a tooth pick to mix it up before applying) and came in a small tub. Then they changed the consistency to a cream-like texture. Now, it comes in a tube, which I personally prefer because I think tubes are more hygienic than tubs. the texture neither thick nor runny and gives a very light feeling when applied and it leaves no greasiness. There is a mild smell which I can't describe, but I quite like it. A small amount is enough for the full face and though it's only 30g of product it lasts me for good 4-5 months (I use this only on my face - to control my mild to moderate acne and I use this every two nights) and I think it will last around 2 months if you use it every night very religiously. Oh and also I recommended this cream to few of my friends and two of them experienced mild breakouts from this (and cursed me of course). So, as any cream out there, this will not give equal results to everybody.

Special things to note:
My skin type - Oily
I had mild to moderate acne ( NOT full blown pimples - I never had those, just lots of tiny bumps)
I was 22 years old when I started using this cream (in late 2012) and have been using this ever since.

The Good:
  • Absolutely does what it claims : "Fairness"

  • Contains no bleaching agents (mentioned in the packaging)
  • Has a very light feeling to it with no greasiness whatsoever
  • Lovely, mild fragrance (for me)
  • Despite the small amount of product offered, it lasts for few months (for me)
  • Eliminates acne (again for me, and my cousin and few of my friends. Note: Gave mild breakouts to two of my friends)

The Bad:
  • Bit pricey: Rs. 2000 for 30g (15 USD)
  • Not easily available in retail (every supermarket does not carry it, but you can find it in most cosmetic shops in Sri Lanka such as Srina Palace)
  • Has no full ingredient list (There is only a "key" ingredient list)

What I would give :
5/5 - for performance
